I'm in Query Analyzer and there are no tooltips to tell you what the buttons
are. I'm using SQL Server 2000. I'm just used to this Microsoft feature and
was wondering if it might just be turned off or there weren't any. It makes
no sense to me not to be able to know what an icon stands for.

WHat about buying a book like "Quick start to SQL Server". Icons and
function should be explained there, would be too much to explain the
function in detail here, sorry.

Actually a Tooltip is only that little sticky note, or small yellow
Descriptive note that appears when your mouse hoovers over a button.  It
doesn't happen on Query Analyzer but it does happen in Enterprise Manager. My
question is why doesn't Query Analyzer not support the tooltip.

The reason is that QA is a holdover from the 6.5 version of ISQL/W.  It has
been revamped, but essentially the same tool.  It's old technology; so, it
doesn't conform to the same behaviour as the newer tools.  Remember VB 3?

However, the SQLEM uses the newer MMC, which does have all of the new
bells-n-whistles.

Luckily, with SQL Server 2005, the SQL Workbench will just use the new
Visual Studio IDE.  So, you will have all of the nifty little features
there.

Sorry; throw a note in Microsoft's suggestion box.

Sincerely,

Anthony Thomas

The reason for what? ToolTips not working for the OP? Or not being able to turn off ToolTips
(assuming there isn't such an option, I couldn't find such)?

I couldn't find such option in VS2003, but I admit that I didn't look very closely (there are so
many option).

Also, FWIW, SQL Server Management Studio (used to be called SQL Server Workbench in the earlier
betas) isn't the VS IDE. It looks like VS, but you can't load, say, a VB project in it. Of course,
the SQL Server tool team has borrowed code from VS, but a feature available in VS might not be in
SSMS (and vice versa).
