Sql Server Shared Hosting

Hello,

I'm looking for a cheap Sql Server 2005/2008 shared hosting provider. My
software requires hosted MSSQL database to access remote MySql database
hosted on the other server. On my local machine I've done this by creating a
linked server. I also found some suggestions to use OPENROWSET command, but
haven't tried it by myself.

When it comes to MSSQL shared hosting I'm not sure whether it's possible to
grant permissions to use linked servers to certain users at all? I found two
hosting companies and asked that before purchasing the plan. Both providers
had guaranteed that I would be able to connect to my remote MySql db.
However after I bought the hosting plan one of the providers
"double-checked" with their system admins and told they don't allow to
create linked servers. Other company was even better. Their support appeared
to be Sql dummies and didn't know what I was talking about. Then - because
the security wasn't allowing me to add the linked server - they offered me
to send them the scripts and to create the linked server on my behalf. I'm
not a Sql Server admin but I think this would allow all users hosting with
that providers to connect to my MySql database!

Could someone give me advice if it's possible to have secure linked server
connection with the shared Sql Server hosting plan? Can someone also
recommend a good MSSQL hosting provider?

Many thanks
Darius

Why do you need to conect to a MySQL database through a MSSQL instead of
directly connecting to the MySQL from your software?
