SQL Server 2000 download?Where can I get an evaluation copy of SQL Server 2000? I have followed all
the links and they all point me to SQL Server 2005. We are having lots of problems (connection issues) with SQL Server 2005 Express and from what I have read, the full version also has the same issues. So please send me links to download an eval copy of SQL Server 2000 (we plan to move to a permanent server later which already has a copy) for Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. TIA, Anil

SQL Server 2000 is,
as the name says, 7 years old and its support is going away soon. You should focus on fixing those connection issues instead. Perhaps somebody here should be able to help. forums that say the same thing. Besides, I hate to be a pioneer on new versions of the software. I usually wait for at least one service pack before adopting new software. And since 2005 is at Service Pack 2 it more than fulfills your "at least one service pack" requirement. In fact 2005 is to be replaced next year by SQL Server 2008, so it hardly makes sense to look at anything older than 2005. I assure you that connection issues are not the norm, whatever problems you have had so far. Roy Harvey Beacon Falls, CT Thanx, maybe I will revisit this issue when the project is accepted ad we
have a breather, but right now I am under the gun. I don't know why we are having problems, but our Applicaiton which works fine with our local SQL 2000 server seems to burp with 2005. Every now and then we will get errors saying the SQL Server connection cannot be made and we just wait a few minutes and it works fine. Of course the same issues will come up many times in forums. That doesn't reflect a fundamental problem with the product. There are millions of people successfully using SQL Server 2005. SQL Server 2000 enters the final phase of its support lifecycle next year. Only critical security fixes (if any) will be released beyond April. Given the huge advances in 2005 and given that SQL Server 2008 is due soon I think you'd be crazy to install 2000 unless you were forced to for compatibility reasons. -- David Portas |
