I'm experiencing some known issues (memory leaks) that have hot fixes.

Is there a service pack release or update scheduled for the near future?

Well it is hard to say since you didn't tell us what version or service pack
you are already on. But if there is a known issue that is affecting your
system you can call MS PSS and they will give the the hotfix for that with
no charge.

SQL 2k5 SP2
Version: 9.00.3054.00
Memory Errors: 701 - There is insufficient system memory to run this query.

Based on information in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941450/ I think some
of these hot fixes may resolve the problem. However, I've not at all
interested in applying a hot fix to a production server, without first
verifying it. However, we all know that reproducing memory leaks on demand is
rather challenging. Never the less, we are trying to reproduce the same error
on a test server; if we can & the hot fix(es) resolve the problem, then we
will probably install the hot fix on the production server. My preference is
to wait for a more stable solution in an SP or Update.

So does anyone have a clue as to when a new SQL SP or set of Updates will be
available?

Thanks,

BigSam

Just because it is a Hotfix does not mean it is less stable than the same
fix in a Service pack. The question boils down to is your system now less
stable without the Hotfix?  Only you can determine that from the testing you
mentioned. There are definitely Hotfixes and a Cumulative Update since your
version.  There is no plan for a new SP at this time but updates will
continue to appear as fixes are found. This link will give you more details
on what is available. Look at the two links near the top.
