SQL Server does not exist or access denied on one computer only

Hi,
We have a vb application running on 3 computers on our client's site,
connecting to a sql server 2000 db on a server. It has been running well
starting from last year until last week, when one computer showed this error.
"SQL Server does not exist or Access Denied."
We have tried most of the solutions found on the net, pinging the server,
checking the named pipes, tcp/ip settings, user accounts... we disabled the
firewall, logged on using domain, workgroup, or local account.

The thing is it was working fine until last week. the only significant
change that might have triggered this error was an installation of an
antivirus program. we've disabled it also for the time being, we also
re-registered sqloledb.dll, just in case it was accidentally unregistered by
this installation.

The computer has windows xp sp2 installed in it. It can still connect and
share files with the other computers in the network, including the server.

Thank you.

uri,

actually the problem has been solved already. we went through all the cases
again on the microsoft support site, and updating the DSQUERY value in the
registry fixed it!
no, we didn't check the EventViewer, i think checking the EventViewer
beforehand would have also made our investigation easier. Thanks a lot for
your response.
